Pokémon Types

Knowing that Fire beats Grass is one thing—but what about when your opponent sends out a dual Water/Ground type and you're trying to calculate effective damage on the fly?

This type explorer breaks down all 18 Pokémon types with clear strength and weakness charts, dual-type interactions, and battle-ready counters. Whether you're building a balanced team or prepping for competitive showdowns, you'll find exactly what beats what—and why it matters in real matches.

Type Chart (Quick Reference)

Check attack matchups for all 18 types in the table below.

All 18 Pokémon type matchups

Read each row as the move's attacking type. These are the standard matchups from Generation VI onward. Unlisted defending types take normal damage (1×); abilities, items and other battle effects are not included.

For a dual-type Pokémon, multiply the two matchups: Grass deals 4× damage to Water/Ground, while Electric deals 0× because Ground is immune. Same-type attack bonus is a separate multiplier. Pokémon GO and the TCG use different damage rules.
